Shaftesbury Carnival

Please see product recall notice from Wiltshire Trading Standards. These were sold in Shaftesbuy by unofficial sellers!!

We MUST stress that these people were NOT official sellers of Shaftesbury Carnival and we take no responsiblilty for these products. They just turn up and sell their products and then leave! They give no money to the us.*** PRODUCT RECALL - LED BALLOON ***

We are aware LED balloons have been popular at recent carnivals and outdoor events. We have recently seized a batch at a local event which were non-compliant for reasons similar to those below. If you have an LED balloon which appears to have any of these features we would advise not to give it to children.

Risk type
Chemical, choking, environment, strangulation

The LED string is too long and can detach. If it wraps around a child's neck, it could lead to strangulation. The solder on the LED string contains an excessive amount of lead (measured value: 9.33 % by weight).

Lead poses a risk to the environment.

Moreover, the battery compartment can easily be opened or breaks when the toy is dropped, giving access to the batteries. A child may put the batteries in the mouth, which could cause damage to the child’s gastrointestinal tract or choking.

The product does not comply with the requirements of the Toy Safety Directive and the Commission Directive on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (RoHS 2 Directive) and the relevant European standard EN 71-1 and EN 62115.

Measures taken by economic operators
Destruction of the product

Description
Transparent inflated balloon fixed to a plastic rigid handle. The handle contains an AAA battery, which operates the LED string that is wrapped around the exterior.

Was this same ones in shaftesbury tree light up last night.

If they are really £15 !! why are people stupid enough to to buy them? Spend the money on something that won't pop or blow away in minutes, let alone kill or maim your child or damage the environment! How about at least a fiver each family in the carnival collecting boxes for local charities instead instead of expecting a free show?

Seen loads of these around late night shopping last night.

Oh no I brought one for both of mine

Helen Beasley!! You still got yours?? Xx

Is there nothing that can be done to stop these people selling these items ??

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
